How a big bill actually works

  1. 1

    Keep it unpaid

Don't rush to pay a large bill — that's your leverage.

  2. 2

    Negotiate a cash price

A bill not tied to a network contract can actually be negotiated. We help.

  3. 3

    Submit for sharing

Your share is paid first; eligible amounts above it are shared by members.

Sharing is voluntary and not guaranteed. Members remain responsible for their bills.

Your share per need

Pick the amount you pay first

A "need" is the eligible medical expenses from one injury or illness. You pay your chosen amount; the community shares what's above it.

$500$1,000$1,500$2,500$5,000

Limit your costs: pay your share on up to 3 needs per year — the 4th eligible need is shared with no share from you.

Existing conditions

Nobody is turned away. Large needs phase in.

Applies to conditions with symptoms, treatment or medication in the 36 months before you join.

Health care sharing

Health care made simple, in 5 steps

Members pool resources to share each other's eligible medical bills: a community with published rules, not an insurance policy. Many families pair it with everyday Direct Access Care.

  1. 1

    Choose your care

Telehealth, office visits, urgent care, or the ER and hospital.

  2. 2

    Show your member card

Your provider bills the program directly.

  3. 3

    Discounts apply

Bills are discounted through a large nationwide network.

  4. 4

    You pay your portion

Up to your yearly household amount — you pick the level.

  5. 5

    The community shares the rest

Other members share in your eligible medical bills.

1M+ providers nationwide

Health care sharing vs. insurance

Health care sharing programs are not insurance and do not guarantee payment of medical bills. Sharing is voluntary and subject to each program's guidelines, which may include faith-based membership standards and limits on pre-existing conditions. Savings examples vary by household.

Quick answers

How does medical cost sharing handle a big bill?
Keep the bill unpaid, negotiate a cash price, then submit it for sharing. You pay your chosen share (IUA) first and members share eligible amounts above it.
How much do I pay per need?
You choose an IUA, typically $500, $1,000, $1,500, $2,500 or $5,000. You pay it on up to 3 needs a year; a 4th eligible need is shared without an IUA (example guidelines).
Are pre-existing conditions covered?
Nobody is turned away. Large needs tied to conditions from the prior 36 months phase in: not shared in year 1, up to $25k in year 2, up to $50k in year 3, then fully shareable (example guidelines).
